About

Sat 20th - Sun 21st May 2017
Isimila African Garden, Iringa, Tanzania

Isimila Festival is Southern Tanzania's biggest arts festival, located just outside of Iringa Town in the historical stone-age site of Isimila. The festival brings together Tanzanian and international communities for two days of music, arts and culture, celebrating the creativity and diversity of this beautiful region.

The event features music from across Tanzania, from traditional village groups in the local area to renowned Tanzanian artists and international music, as well as a full programme of arts, crafts and performance.

After the tremendous success of the debut festival in 2016, Isimila is back with an outstanding lineup this year, establishing itself as a mainstay of the Tanzanian cultural scene - we look forward to seeing you there!

GETTING HERE

By bus

For ticket holders, free shuttle buses will run between the Boma Café in Iringa town and the festival site all weekend. If you don't have a ticket, you can still hop on our free buses if there's space - but priority is given to advance ticket holders!

By car

Isimila Africa Garden is a 20km drive from Iringa Town, heading west on the highway towards Mbeya. Turn left into the site a short way after the Tosamaganga junction – the road will be lined with festival flags and you’ll see signs for Isimila African Garden and Isimila Festival!

Parking is available on-site – just 3,000 tsh per vehicle for the full weekend.

ARRIVAL

Upon arrival, you will exchange your ticket for a festival wristband – look after your wristband, as you will need it if you are moving in and out of the site over the weekend! (Feel free to come and go – your ticket gives you access all weekend long!)

CHILDREN

Isimila Festival is a family friendly event - so much so that children under 16 get free entry when accompanied by paying adults. Meanwhile our Watoto Tent will keep the little ones busy with a range of arts and crafts, courtesy of Iringa International School!

FOOD AND DRINK

A wide range of delicious Tanzanian and international food will be available in our festival food court, from trusty old ugali, rice and beans to fine Italian and Indian cuisine, barbecues, kiti moto, and much, much more! Meanwhile, our good friends at Tanzania Breweries and Coca Cola will keep your thirst quenched all weekend.

WEATHER

The rains are over here so you can expect a lot of sun during the day! Bring your hats and sunscreen - but wrap up warm later as the temperature drops quite a bit at night!

WHAT NOT TO DO!

Please do not bring dangerous weapons onsite – our friendly Maasai will be checking at the gate and confiscating anything suspicious!

Please do not bring food onsite. With a delicious lineup of food and drink ready for you, we’d appreciate you not bringing your own into the site. Campers are, however, allowed to bring supplies into the camping area.

Finally, unless you are camping with us, you will be asked to vacate the site outside of general opening hours – so keep an eye on the bus schedule if you need a ride back to town!
